Xuke Lin is a contemporary sculpture and installation artist who graduated from Central Saint Martins and is currently pursuing a Sculpture Master's degree at the Royal College of Art. Her work is primarily influenced by existentialism and Taoism, exploring the intersections of consciousness and the subconscious, human being and the self, nature and space. She researches the possibility and relationship between natural and artificial materials and processing, in order to awaken the audience's reflection on the impact of artificial and natural things and to guide humanity to return to nature to re-examine the definition of existence and self-value, the dominance and balance of free will and subconsciousness.
Lin's art is fluid and full of uncertainty, she decides the shape and colour of her sculptures by encountering and sensing these materials, and capturing inspiration that flashes by when she comes into contact with them. So she likes to discover possibilities in the creative process.
---For the AcrossRCA---
My peers and I produced a digital installation with video work in our AcrossRCA project to discuss the de-labeling and visualisation of female characters in THE CONSTRUCTION OF GENDER RIGHTS IN POPULAR CULTURE. We drew inspiration from the elements of yin and yang butterflies and chose to break the stereotypes of game characters in today's society and the male gaze, calling for society to urgently address the prejudices and gender discrimination that women face constantly in society.
