Climate CrisisCommunitiesDirect ActionMental Health

Anxiety Garden aims to help people at the Royal College of Art who are experiencing climate anxiety to form a supportive community through hands-on activities that reduce waste materials at the College.

Climate anxiety refers to “anxiety associated with perceptions about climate change, even among people who have not personally experienced any direct impacts” (Clayton 2020). One of the commonly reported features of climate anxiety is feeling powerless (Hickman et al. 2021). Among the strategies for coping with climate anxiety are engaging in activities that mitigate environmental damages and having social ties (Clayton 2020).
