Tyler Harvey is a graduate of the Environmental Design and Sustainability programme at the University of British Columbia and has worked in the field for over 3 years. However, he has become increasingly interested in the potential impact of emerging technologies on industrial design and decided to pursue further education in the field.
Tyler enrolled in a master's programme in Design Products at the Royal College of Arts in London. The programme is known for its focus on emerging technologies and their applications in design, making it an ideal choice for Tyler's interests. He is particularly interested in exploring the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning in industrial design, as well as the potential of new materials and manufacturing techniques.
Tyler's decision to return to school was not an easy one, as it meant taking a break from his career as a designer. However, he recognised that the field is rapidly evolving and that staying ahead of the curve would require ongoing education and professional development. He also saw the opportunity to bring new insights and ideas back to Canada and contribute to the growth of the industry in his home country.
While at the RCA, Tyler has been exposed to a wide range of cutting-edge technologies and design approaches. He has collaborated with other students and faculty members on projects that explore the use of augmented reality, artificial intelligence and 3D printing, among other things. He has also had the opportunity to work on real-world projects with leading companies in the tech and manufacturing industries, giving him valuable hands-on experience.
He believes that the future of industrial design lies in the intersection of technology, sustainability, and human-centered design. He hopes to play a role in shaping that future by working with companies and organisations in Canada to develop innovative and sustainable products that improve people's lives.
