Chengdong Shen is a Textiles designer from China. He is keen on exploring and studying traditional Chinese culture -- the Book of Changes and eight diagrams (eight symbols representing natural landscapes and phenomena). From the perspective of CMF, and through the material experiment to show his understanding and perception of these symbols.
The current research is on the Kan Gua (the symbol for water) in Eight trigrams. It is black in Chinese culture and has the characteristics of being trapped, adaptation and soft with tough.
Exploring the properties of materials and experimenting with different techniques is the focus of this project. It mainly focuses on the presentation of the characteristics of "soft with tough", trying to seek more possibilities from the visual, material and technical aspects.
The research methods are mainly digital, such as 3D modeling and AI drawing digital patterns; Using laser cutting technology and 3D printing technology.
